Atletico Madrid continued their UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday night as they played Bayern Leverkusen away at the BayArena.
It definitely wasn’t a good night for the Spanish side and possibly not the one Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey was looking out for after being caught in the center of attention.
With Juventus winning their game against Lokomotiv Moscow, Atletico Madrid needed a win to keep tabs on the Italian giants at the top of Group D but it turned out otherwise as Bayern Leverkusen beat them 2-1.
Partey left his goalkeeper, Oblak with no chance to save his skewed header which ended in his own net.
Under no pressure, the Ghanaian mistimes his jump to score a bizarre own goal at the BayArena to put Bayer 1-0 up at halftime.
Bayern Leverkusen doubled their lead five minutes after recess as Kevin Volland beat Jan Oblak with a low shot.
Diego Simeone’s men were left chasing for a comeback goal in a rather intense game that saw Bayer winger, Amiri sent off in the 84th minute.
The visitors made their one-man advantage count as Thomas Partey worked some space around the penalty box before setting up teammate Alvaro Moratta to pull one back for Atletico.
The consolation goal came a bit too late for the Los Rojiblancos who lost 2-1 in their fourth game of the campaign.
Atletico currently lie second, three behind Juventus whom they will play next with seven points.
