The National U23 football team, Black Meteors will play Mali this evening in the final Group A game in the ongoing U23 AFCON.
Following the 3-2 loss to host Egypt in their last outing, Ghana’s chances of making it to the semifinals is rather slim pending the outcome of the game between Egypt and Cameroon.
Trailing Egypt, Cameroon with five and three points respectively, a win against Mali will not be enough should the host nation fail to beat Cameroon with a good margin.
Only the first and second-placed teams from each group will secure a qualifying berth to the next round.
Head coach Ibrahim Tanko at the pre-match conference remains confident his side will beat Mali to qualify for the semifinals.
“We still have a chance to qualify in our last group match on Thursday. Mali has zero points, we know Mali won’t give us an easy match ”
“We only have to concentrate on our game. If we win then Cameroon will have to lose for us to qualify. We know it’s not going to be easy but we are hopeful”, he said.
Both group games are scheduled to begin at 6 PM but Ghana’s game will be played at the Al-Salam Stadium Cairo.
