‘Stoned’ referee calls off Phar Rangers, Heart of Lions clash

The Division One League clash between Phar Rangers and Heart of Lions was ended abruptly after center referee Robert Musey called off the game in the dying minutes over safety concerns.

The Matchday 15 tie at Mampong saw the visitors take the lead in the 22nd minute after Abdul Manan scored go out Lions a goal up.

Minutes later, he went closest to scoring his second yet his effort could only find the crossbar.

The half ended 1-0 in favor of Heart of Lions.

Phar Rangers after recess came to the party and began creating opportunities of their own and were presented a good opportunity 10 minutes into the second half.

The effort missed narrowly as the host grew in confidence and pegged Lions in their half.

With barely a quarter of the match left to play, Rangers found the equalizer through Nathaniel Kwaw.

At this point, it was all about the ‘Gye Nyame’ lads pushing for the match-winner. This saw the fans going loud and impatient about some calls made by the match officials.

In the process, an unidentified fan hit the center referee Robert Musey with a stone, a development that caused a temporary hold up for some minutes until the referee decided it was unsafe to continue.

The score was tied one-all with barely ten minutes to end proceedings at the Mampong Park.

Either clubs are now awaiting the referee’s report and decision from the Ghana Football Association over the incident.

Crowd violence is gradually becoming a menace this season after pockets of incidence across some match centers particularly in the DOL.
