Ghana’s dream to win a third consecutive WAFU tournament could only remain a dream as Senegal defeated the Black Stars B’ to win this years’ edition.

A fairly balanced game at the Stade Lat-Dior failed to produce a winner after 90mins as the final traveled to extra time.

Senegal broke the deadlock after 16 minutes of extra time as Youssouf Badji capitalized on a defensive blunder between the Ghanaian defense to put the host 1-0 up.

It took just three minutes for two-time champions to respond as Joseph Esso equalized for Ghana to peg the game at 1-1.

The rest of the game could not produce a goal, meaning the tie will be decided with a penalty shootout.

The Black Stars B’ missed their first two kicks before Justice Blay missed the third after Appiah McCarthy has scored for Ghana.

The results meant Senegal is the 2019 West African Football Union (WAFU) champions, winning 3-1 on penalties.
