The Night Street Soccer league celebrates its one-year anniversary since inception with a Pictograph session on social media.

Due to the ban on social gatherings and football activities, the celebration will see the display of photographs on social media to educate on the precautionary measures to help curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Three-time Volta GJA Sports Journalist of the Year, Tilda Elinam Acorlor who’s the brain behind the league expressed her joy to the press about the concept.

“Overly achieved, if you should ask me”

“The people of Anlokodzi embraced the league, other invited communities embraced it, folks and spectators were awesome and always made it a point to be present at the games venue on Thursday evenings just to catch a glimpse of a night community 5 A-side league.

“Our aim was to organize a football league in the community to change the narrative and negative perception about the people and truly we used football to achieve that”, Ms Acorlor said.

Despite some challenges, she remained upbeat about the next season.

“It was difficult getting sponsorships for the maiden season, getting sponsorships is a regional challenge, we are hopeful our second season would get the necessary backing that we are expecting.

“As we await the deadly pandemic, coronavirus to leave us, hopefully, the Night Street Soccer League will return bigger and better than last year’s”.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG)-Volta Secretary gave some insight about Monday’s program.

“A photoshoot will take place at the Nfodzo Park, where a demonstration will be made on frequently handwashing with soap under running water or the use of alcohol-based hand rubs among other safety protocols”.

The Night Street Soccer is a Five-A-Side Community football league which comes off every Thursday night at the Nfodzo Park at Anlokodzi in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho.

The maiden edition saw teams from six communities compete with Vanakpoe FC emerging winners on a superior goal difference despite ending the league on same points, 19 with Bankoe FC.
