The former Ghana international joins the Nordsjaelland technical team ahead of the 2020-2021 football campaign.
In an official statement on Wednesday, the Danish side confirmed that The Bison will join the club as a player-coach under Head coach Flemming Pedersen.
“Now Essien himself will be able to contribute to this since he has accepted to become part of the club’s coaching staff in the upcoming season, with the title of Player Coach, under the guidance of Head Coach Flemming Pedersen.”
“Essien will join the staff in an assistant role and participate in the training alongside the players to help implement the drills and ideas in the best possible way as well as contribute with new input to coaching group evaluations of the training session afterwards”, part of the statement read.
The 37-year-old is the latest Ghanaian to have joined Nordsjaelland technical team after Mas-ud Didi Dramani and Laryea Kingston.
Michael Essien made 58 appearances for Ghana and featured for a host of top clubs across Europe including Chelsea, Real Madrid, Lyon, among others.
