Legon Cities secured their first win of the Ghana premier league season on Friday, beating West African Football Academy 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Friday evening’s clash ended with either side failing to score in the first 45 minutes, however it was the host who broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half.
Joseph Agyei made no mistake as he converted from the spot after Mathew Anim Cudjoe was brought in the WAFA penalty.
Cities managed to hold on to earn their first three points after eight games, losing four and drawing three times.
The win will come as a huge boost for the Nouveau-rich side who have struggled to leave up to expectation despite a high spending summer window that saw that sign all-time Ghana top scorer Asamoah Gyan.
Coach Bashiru Hayford’s side will need to build up from the win to have any chance of escaping the drop as they currently lie 17th on the league table, a point above bottom placed King Faisal and pegged on level with Dreams FC with both having a game in hand.
