Ghana will take on Zimbabwe at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday evening in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G qualifiers before travelling to Harare for the reverse fixture.
The Black Stars are currently second, level on points with Ethiopia sand trail group leaders South Africa by a point. The four-time African cup of nations winners has won and lost a game apiece and need a win at home on Saturday to keep their Qatar dreams alive.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe has picked only a point from the first two games following a draw with South Africa and losing to Ethiopia. Results haven’t been forthcoming for the two teams who changed coaches – Milocan Rajevec replacing Charles Akonnor. At the same time, Norman Mapeza took charge of Zimbabwe after the sacking of former Asante Kotoko coach Zdravko Lugarusic.
However, the two coaches will face off looking to begin their respective tenures with wins on Saturday evening.
Head to Head
Ghana will play Zimbabwe for the seventh time in all competitions, winning three, losing once and two, ending in a stalemate.
The last four games have seen Ghana pick up two wins against Sao Tome and Principe and Ethiopia and lost to Morocco and South Africa. For their Saturday opponent, it is three defeats and two draws in the last five and Norman Mapeza will have an arduous task to secure at least a point against Ghana.
