The German top division concluded on Saturday as five Ghanaian players went down with their respective clubs.

There was little hope for Fortuna Dusseldorf as they needed a point at least heading into the final game with the hope that Werder Bremen will either drop points or earn a slim win against cologne.

Fortuna Dusseldorf, home to Ghanaian quartet; Kasim Nuhu Adams, Nana Ampomah, Bernard Tekpetey, and Kelvin Ofori suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Union Berlin. Interestingly, all five players fail to make the match day squad for the clash that confirmed Dusseldorf’s place in the Bundesliga II next season.

All four made 23 Bundesliga appearances between them with Kasim Nuhu Adams making the most (11). The Black Stars defender who is currently on loan at Dusseldorf will return to parent club Hoffenheim following the completion of the 2019/20 German football season.

Nana Ampomah and Bernard Tekpetey made five appearances apiece with youngster Kelvin Ofori making two substitute appearances in the season.

Another Ghanaian player to be relegated from the German Bundesliga is Christopher Antwi-Adjei who’s Paderborn SC finished rock bottom of the league table.

They managed just four wins in the 34 Bundesliga games, losing 22 times and conceding 74 goals in the process. The midfielder featured in all games for the Paderborn this term, starting 28 games and making 6 substitute appearances.

Christopher Antw-Adjei scored once and provided two assists this term for his side.

He is a reported target of Schalke 04 who are looking to price away the 26-year-old midfielder to the Veltins-Arena.

Two bottom-placed clubs in the German Bundesliga are automatically relegated from the top division with the third club from the bottom feature in a playoff match.
