Family of one of Ghana’s most celebrated sports administrators Ohene Gyan have petitioned the Presidency to have the Accra Sports Stadium name revert to Ohene Gyan.
The Ohene Gyan family disclosed to Accra-based Angel FM that having the name changed to Accra Sports Stadium has been an embarrassment to the family.
This was according to renown sports journalist Saddick Adams in a post via his Twitter account.
In 2004, former Ghana president John Agyekum Kuffuor in consultation with several stakeholders decided to name the edifice after the former Ghana Football Association chairman who also served as a vice to the Confederation of African Football.
But following persistent pressure from the Ga Traditional Council, the stadium was changed to its original name in June 2011.
The family of the late football administrator apparently remain unhappy about the decision, charging the Jubilee House to either revert the name back to Ohene Djan or have his name removed from all state records archives and records.
