Dalian Professional forward, Emmanuel Boateng has made a rather interesting revelation in a recent interview with blagogee.com.
The striker who shot to fame following his hat-trick against Spanish giants Barcelona made startling admission on an injury situation that nearly caused him what looks a promising footballing career.
Boateng who began his footballing career with Ghana’s lower-tier side Charity FC opened up on a mysterious injury that left him with a swollen leg just days to signing for his club in Spain.
“I think three days before flying, I had an injury which wasn’t normal as a player. I went to training, I came back and slept and woke up with my knee swelled. I couldn’t walk again”
“I thought that was the end because as a player, I felt really bad and that was my first injury in football,” Boateng is quoted.
However, the 24-year-old said he initially thought his football career was over before it even began yet the Spanish club called and insisted he travels since they are prepared to take care of his treatment.
Speaking on how he felt during that difficult moment, the former Levante player insisted it took his mum to get to remain strong.
“I told my mom it’s over, but she was like no I shouldn’t say that.”
“[Boateng] had a call from the club that I should come so they treat me over there.”
Emmanuel Boateng has since gone on to play for a number of teams including Rio Ave, Moreirense, and Levante before joining Chinese Super League (CSL) side Dalian Professional in the February 2019.
He has made six senior appearances for Ghana scoring once. Boateng played three times for Ghana in the 2015 u20 World Cup.
