The wait for the resumption of Ghana football will continue as restrictions remain intact against the resumption of the sport.
Several attempts by the Ghana Football Association(GFA) and some stakeholders to prove their readiness to return to the pitch have proven futile with the Government of Ghana tightening its grip over the return of the football.
Ghana football enthusiasts appeared confident of lessened restriction on the sport by Ghana President, Nana Akufo Addo in his 15th Nation’s address but were hit with disappointment as football was missing in his updates.
Following the recent Update No.16 on Sunday, it has become evidently clear that the West African country will have to wait a bit longer as Gov’t seeks to consult the health ministry and other stakeholders before giving football the green light.
Nana Akufo-Addo in his 16th Nation Address revealed that a decision is imminent soon.
“In the next couple of weeks, a decision will also be taken on the resumption of contact sports, including football, taking into consideration the imminent participation of our national teams in international competitions”
“As a known lover of football, I know how devastating its absence has been, and it is my hope that very soon we will all have the pleasure of playing and watching the beautiful game again.
“Until then, non-contact sports are the only sporting events permitted to take place”, Akufo-Addo iterated
Despite the eased restriction on other non-contact sports, Ghana look set to go half a year without football after it was suspended in March 2020.
