Basketball Africa League president pays tribute to the late John Thompson

Following the death of John Thompson, President of Basketball Africa League Amadou Gallo Fall has paid his respect to the legendary basketball coach.

Having played professionally for the Boston Celtics in 1965 and 1966, Big John went on to become the first black coach to win the national championship.

He led Georgetown University Hoyas basketball team to triumph in the 1984 National championship.

The Hall of Famer is credited to recruit a number of players who went on to play in the NBA with a few others earning hall of fame status.

In a post via BAL official Twitter handle, Amadou Gallo Fall expressed huge admiration for the former NBA player who passed at age 78.

In 1988, he led the US Olympic Basketball team to a third player finish.

John Thompson is noted to have led several protests against racial injustice in the sport while promoting black representation in college basketball.
