Ahmed Apimah Barusso has revealed that head coach of his former Italian side Rimini tasked him to understudy Michael Essien.
Leonardo Acori was his manager at the Serie B side prior to his move to top division side AS Roma in 2007.
Speaking to CitiSports, the 35-year-old revealed he was tasked to watch Michael Essien every time he plays for Chelsea in a bid to improve him.
“I was always arguing with my coach at Rimini. He told me I had to break into the national team setup and be like Michael Essien, ”
“Anytime Chelsea was playing that season, he would tell me to stop everything I was doing and watch the game and take notes on Essien’s performance”, Barusso told CitiSports.
The former Nania FC player had high admonishing for Essien who featured in a similar role as him.
”Michael Essien was a very great player at the time, and we played in a similar position.
”I had no choice but to watch because if I wasn’t able to answer his questions the following day, I’d be in trouble”, he is quoted on Citisportsonline.
Ahmed Barusso made 6 appearances for the Black Stars after his debut in 2007 scoring once.
He featured for a host of clubs abroad mostly in Italy.
