Ghana’s two biggest clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will renew their rivalry on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The match initial scheduled for October this year had to called-off due to heavy downpour as the match lasted for barely ten minutes.
The last meeting between the two sides was in the Normalisation Committee (NC) Tier 1 cup where Asante Kotoko emerged winners after penalty shootout.
Clearly, this afternoon’s game presents an opportunity for both coaches to make a statement ahead of the new Ghana football league season scheduled for next weekend.
For Kim Grant, a win against Kotoko might serve as compensation for his loss in their previous match while Charles Akonnor was in charge of Porcupine Warriors.
Meanwhile, Maxwell Konadu having recently taken charge of Kotoko will use the match to test the strength of his team after making some new signings.
In some team news, the host will be without the services of Skipper Felix Annan, Habib Mohammed, and Abass Mohammed. The trio will miss the game due to injury.
Hearts of oak will have to do without forward, Joseph Esso, Fatawu Mohammed, and Benjamin Mensah for various reasons.
The match which is played in honor of every sitting president has the teams winning it eleven times between them. Kotoko boasts the most wins with seven whiles Hearts come second with four wins.
